_introduction./

Welcome, my name is Dan Baker, and I am a qualified (BSc (hons) Web Development) web and graphics designer originating from England, but currently working in Australia.

This site is a small sample of the work I have done over the past 5 years, ranging from websites to logo design to digital art, I have also worked on many intranet and internal database systems which cannot be displayed here.

To navigate this site, you need to scroll right and left. While unconventional, I find this format very effective for displaying a portfolio of work such as this.

I have a wide range of skills, from Photoshop design through to advanced PHP programming, for more information you can view my résumé in PDF format here (coming soon).

brobury sports

I was involved with the design and coding of this online gambling website which linked in with the Alea online gambling system.

The project involved coding the design to the clients specification of a high class gambling environment aimed at the professional. The second stage involved communicating with partners in both Canada and Costa Rica in order to configure the gambling back-end and integrating with various online services and systems.

The site is not yet live, but is planned for release in Q2 2008.

malvern sports

This is the sister site to Brobury Sports, though instead of being aimed at the professional, it is to be aimed at the "sports fanatic".

Like Brobury, this site involved a lot of communication with partners on the website, and integration into the same services. This site however took this a step further and has integration into many RSS and XML based syndications in order to provide up-to-date sporting news, fixtures, results and betting odds.

The site is not yet live, but is planned for release in Q2 2008.

food and drink

_food & drink./

While under a previous employer I was tasked with working closely with the Bristol publication, Food & Drink Guides to create an online presence for their magazine.

The site originally featured a fully XHTML and CSS standards compliant design as requested by the client, the database was engineered to allow ease of adding new restaurant reviews to the site.

The site has a full CMS system allowing adding and editing of both restaurant reviews, advertising based on different regional areas, and a news system.

While the site is now under new management, the initial design and database structure are effectively the same as when I created it.

j and e page

_j & e page./

J & E Page are a flower importer located in Herefordshire, England. While working for a previous employer I was contracted out to work with the team to create a website to a very tight specification.

The site involves a full CMS with a frontend for client navigation. The site is not aimed at the general public, and could therefore have a very specific navigation setup for ease of use for customers of J & E Page.

While now under new management, the website remains functionally the same as when it was created to the clients specification.

phireweb logo

_phireweb logo./

This was an early attempt at the phireweb logo for a previous incarnation of this website.

This was a self-defined project, there were very few restrictions or rules as to what I created. This was created in Adobe Photoshop, there were 4 initial prototype versions of this design.

digital painting

_photoshop painting./

I am proficient in using photoshop for digital painting via a graphics tablet.

This is one of my attempts at painting using my graphics tablet from a source photograph.

This method can also be used for photo manipulation, touch-up, etc.
